Our History

The Green House is Carlton’s best kept secret. 

Formerly Snyder’s Greenhouse, The Green House in Carlton, MN was founded in 1954. Located at 210 6th St N in Carlton, just East of the Courthouse and Highschool and North of Highway 210 on your way to Jay Cooke State Park. The Green House was purchased by Jim and Shirley Farenholz in 1986 from the Snyders. The current owners, Heather and Kyle Bergherr, purchased The Green House from the Farenholzs in 2023. 

From humble beginnings as a solarium off of the garage, The Green House now consists of 15 greenhouses with over 50,000 square feet of growing space that sits on more than one acre of land. We have permanent brick and mortar locations in Carlton, McGregor and Aitkin, MN and have Spring satellite houses in Cloquet and Duluth, MN and Superior, WI. During the spring season we employ over 70 employees spread across all of our locations. 

As we expand our services, classes, and footprint in our community, we pledge to you that we will continue to bring you new and exciting varieties of plants every season with the same quality you have grown to expect year after year.
